NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti with 890W Power Limit, With its ridiculous 450W TGP, NVIDIA’s newest BFGPU to enter their 30-series portfolio, the RTX 3090 Ti, is already a beast. That’s the power limit provided by NVIDIA as a guideline for all AIBs, but certain board partners clearly went above and above by employing modified BIOS and unique cooling methods to keep the GPU under control.

Multiple variations broke the 500W barrier right out of the box as its factory boost clock setting, but users didn’t stop there. Enthusiasts have already tried all they can to outdo even the most generous manufacturer power restrictions, and today’s story is arguably the strangest we’ve heard so far. We’re talking about 900W of sheer lunacy with this one, not 500W, 600W, or even 700W.

RTX 3090 Ti with XOC BIOS installed

MegaSizeGPU, a custom GPU modder, took to Twitter to provide a screenshot of a GPU-Z window showing an RTX 3090 Ti running at an absurd 890W power limit. That’s more than double the manufacturing power limit set by NVIDIA for this GPU. To put this in perspective, this is most likely the highest power limit we’ve ever seen on a popular consumer GPU. To achieve this miracle, the modder utilized a special XOC BIOS that is built for high overclocking. It allows the user to go beyond the sensible limits of any custom BIOS, including the most severe AIBs. As a result, you’ll often see an XOC BIOS used in overclocking competitions to break/set the most insane records using liquid nitrogen cooling and other outlandish methods.

The modder confirmed that the XOC BIOS he’s using is compatible with the ASUS TUF edition of the RTX 3090 Ti, but not the one he’s using. That said, it appears that variations like the EVGA KINGPIN and GALAX Hall of Fame, which are already out of this world, would profit the most from this, especially as both of them come with dual 16-pin PCIe Gen5 power connections for up to 1200W total output.

Most RTX 3090 Ti variants

However, most RTX 3090 Ti models have only one 16-pin power connection. Keep in mind that the modder didn’t utilize an RTX 3090 Ti to reach that power limit, most likely because they didn’t have one with two 16-pin power connections on hand. However, because the BIOS is capable of that maximum TGP of 890W, this is more of a proof of concept that can be realized with the correct GPU.

Using the XOC BIOS, the modder was able to break the 600W barrier on both of the popular RTX 3090 Ti variants using a single 16-pin power connector. The BIOS was able to push the card to 614W utilizing the EVGA FTW3 model. The same XOC BIOS was a bit more kind to the ASUS TUF model, which managed to reach 615W of total power output, with the GA102 GPU alone using 496W.

Almost all RTX 3090 Ti cards on the market have power limitations of less than 500W, however certain outliers exist, such as the ASUS STRIX Liquid Cooled model, which has power restrictions of 500W+ out of the box. If you own an RTX 3090 Ti, you may get the XOC BIOS from the TechPowerUP website or the Chiphell forums. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti with 890W Power Limit

Conclusion

It’s critical to remember that overclocking with this XOC BIOS might permanently harm your GPU or even brick it once the BIOS is installed. So, if you’re daring enough, do this technique at your own peril. The manufacturing power restrictions will sufficient for the rest of us who aren’t aiming to break world records.
