Review of Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti

Review of Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, Even though all of the games can hit 60 frames per second and above, the 3090 Ti still outperformed the reference RTX 3090 by 11 percent and the RTX 3080 by 27 percent. The AMD RX 6900 XT is still 40 percent behind, and it can’t even get 60 frames per second in four of the six titles we tried.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti took the title of greatest graphics card on the market when it was released last month. It has excellent framerates for 4K and 8K gaming, as well as top-tier performance for video editing, 3D rendering, and other tasks.

Today, I’m looking at Gigabyte’s RTX 3090 Ti Gaming OC 24G, which has a more spartan appearance and a slightly (though only slightly) lower price tag than the MSI edition I reviewed last month. Let’s get started.

Gigabyte RTX 3090 Ti Gaming OC 24G

While every RTX 3090 Ti on the market is a beast, the Gigabyte version here differs slightly from its MSI equivalent. This one has a two-slot bracket instead of the three-slot design on the MSI card, but it’s significantly thicker in the waist, measuring 13 x 5.9 x 2.7 inches vs 13.3 x 5.5 x 2.7 inches on the MSI.

This is a massive graphics card, regardless of the amount of brackets used, with a huge black cooling system that takes up a lot of room in your case. You’ll have a hard time fitting this card into a tiny form factor chassis, and I’d highly recommend utilizing the provided GPU brace to keep it from drooping under its own weight.

Overview of Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti

The GPU, which is overclocked to 1905 MHz (slightly slower than the MSI card’s 1950MHz overclock), is cooled by three Windforce fans and a vapor chamber in Gigabyte’s design. It’s powered by a single 16-pin connector to which three 8-pin cables can be connected using the adapter dongle provided. Again, I think the dongle hanging off the side is unsightly, especially if you’ve used custom cable sleeving in your build, but it’s a reasonable compromise until PSUs start selling with cables that suit the new 16-pin connector.

The Gigabyte RTX 3090 Ti has three DisplayPort 1.4a ports and one HDMI 2.1 port, with a maximum resolution of 7680 x 4320 pixels (8K).

Starting with our synthetic benchmarks, the Gigabyte RTX 3090 Ti behind the MSI model by a hair, which is to be expected given its somewhat lower overclock. In 3D Mark Fire Strike, both GPUs fall short of the RX 6950 XT, although they maintain their lead in Unigine Heaven.

RTX 3090 Ti ray tracing synthetics

The story is the same when it comes to ray tracing synthetics. A very similar result to the MSI card, give or take a point, however as we observed in our RX 6950 XT review, when ray tracing is used, the MSI card falls substantially behind.

In our gaming benches, the two RTX 3090 Ti cards face off against each other and the RX 6950 XT, though the two Nvidia cards triumph over AMD in 4K – especially in Metro Exodus, which uses ray tracing. When compared to the rest of Nvidia’s GPU stack, the 3090 Tis has a significant advantage.

Overall, the Gigabyte RTX 3090 Ti Gaming OC 24G accomplishes what it sets out to do: give top-tier gaming performance at an exorbitant price. Things are fairly even when compared to MSI’s take on the 3090 Ti, so if you’re looking for a super-high-end GPU, either card will suffice. However, considering the existence of the RX 6950 XT and the notion that a new generation of GPUs is just around the corner, these cards’ ridiculous prices are much tougher to take.
